Kenzo Takada, the Founder of Kenzo Fashion Brand
Born 1939 in Himeji (Japan), Kenzo Takada's first immersion into the fashion world was through reading his sisters' fashion magazines. First he attended University of Kobe but he hadn't found his heart there, so he left it in favor of fashion. In 1958, he followed his passion for fashion by enrolling to prestigious Bunka Fashion College (Tokyo, Japan). In 1960s, with diploma on hand, he moved to Paris which was the renowned capital of fashion where he entered the fashion industry by selling sketches, attending fashion shows, and networking. Kenzo's success was a typical dream story where at the beginning he had little money to afford excellent fabrics. But because of his ingenuity he managed to create exceptional works out of scrap fabrics. Kenzo's wit and charm have fueled his achievements and provided an absolutely new vibe through his radical knitwear, ethnic and boho themes into the archetypal Parisienne haute couture. |

Establishing Kenzo Fashion House
It was in 1970, when Kenzo fashion house was established, that Kenzo Takada experienced his first real success in fashion. Aside from presenting his fashion collection at the Vivienne Gallery, he also opened his first boutique, 'Jungle Jap', and one of his models was presented on the cover of Elle, the fashion magazine.After establishing his name in Paris, he was soon invited to present his works in New York and Tokyo, respectively. In 1972, he garnered the Fashion Editor Club of Japan's prize. He proved his talent in 1978, and 1979, when his fashion shows were staged in a circus tent. To close the show, horsewomen performers wearing transparent clothes paraded the runway and Kenzo himself walked the runway riding an elephant, his favourite animal.
Brining his Oriental fashion design in his creations, most of Kenzo's early works were based on the traditional Japanese dress, kimono. His sense of style appealed to the young and after some time his unique 'big silhouette' design has become a worldwide phenomenon. It was indeed a mix of the East and the West, traditions and cultures, human & nature, a revolutionary vision that Kenzo has mastered through time.
Today fashion creations by Kenzo (now owned by LVMH, the world's largest luxury goods conglomerate) are looked up as a standard for modern cultural assimilation. His creations are continuously enlivened by his loyal assistants such as Antonio Marras basing their new releases on the vision of master Kenzo - layers, colors and shapes combined in marvelous creations.

In 1999, after the retirement of Kenzo Takada, Odile Lobadowsky was installed as the CEO of Kenzo Parfums with Patrick Guedj as the creative director. The Kenzo Parfums house broadened its market in 2001 through its skin care product line, still holding the values of Kenzo as well the strong oriental influences, perfectly complementing Kenzo fragrances.
Kenzo perfumes are also known for their emotional, feel-good, almost esoteric type of advertising approach. Kenzo perfume ads are beautiful and poetic (and so are the names of the perfumes); they show the world through pinky-colored glasses ;). Some of the most famous spokesmodels for Kenzo perfumes include Olga Kurylenko (the Bond girl) for the Kenzo Amour family and Japanese actress Lika Minamoto for Flower by Kenzo.
