Kenzo Amour by Kenzo (EDP) Women's Perfume Review: an Olfactory Voyage of Love and Peace through Asia
Name: Kenzo Amour (or KenzoAmour) Perfume type/Volume: Eau de Parfum (EDP): 1.0 fl. oz. (30 ml), 1.7 fl. oz. (50 ml), 3.4 fl. oz. (100 ml) Designer: Kenzo Perfumer: Daphné Bugey and Olivier Cresp Launched: 2006 Perfume ad/spokesmodel:C'est un voyage d'amour. (TV perfume ad directed by Patrick Guedj; starring: Olga Kurylenko and Lucca Alvez; music by: CocoRosie)
The secret of a great perfume is in its ability to evoke memories of places you've been or to bring you to places you've never been before. This is exactly what Kenzo Amour by Kenzo (EDP) is able to do. Launched in 2006, this soft, comforting, beautiful blend of Asian notes creates a journey of love and peace through Far Asia. The perfume was created by top perfumers Daphné Burgey and Olivier Cresp and it received a Fragrance of the Year Award of The Fragrance Foundation in 2007 (category: Women's Nouveau Niche).
The perfume's inspiration is one couple's voyage through Far Asian countries: India, Reunion, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Burma, and China, embodied by an imaginary Kenzo Love Bird, a symbol of love, travelling and connection to nature. The beautiful Love Kenzo Bird can is printed on the box of the perfume and it can be also seen in the TV perfume advertisement for Kenzo Amour.
The TV ad for Kenzo Amour perfume is in my personal opinion one of the most beautiful, poetic women's perfume ads ever. It was directed by Patrick Guedj, and starring the stunning Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko and Lucca Alvez. The couple travels through Asia, embraced, we see the colorful and vibrant beauty of Asia. Their story tells us the whole world can be our home, if we spread the wings of our Love Bird and just feel and see with our eyes 'shot' - with our hearts...
"I once fell in love with you, just because the sky turned from gray into blue..." (Music by CocoRosie: Good Friday)
Bottles in which Kenzo Amour perfume is stored are true masterpieces. Designed by renowned designer Karim Rashid, they are available in three Asia inspired colours: fuchsia (1 fl. oz.), white (1.7 fl. oz.) and orange for 3.4 fl. oz. volume of Kenzo Amour. The bottles try to capture soft feminine silhouette, love, bird in flying...
Kenzo Amour's harmonic blend of scents far surpasses other floral-woody musky perfumes. The fragrance opens with rich exotic floral scent. The almond like scent of Frangipani blossom from Bali is serene and sensual. It's like a gentle dewy scent that is very friendly to the olfactory senses. As it starts to fade, the heart notes composed of gentle cherry blossom, comforting Chinese white tea, and spicy Frankincense emanate comfort and peacefulness. The middle notes are perfect not just to relax the body but also the mind. The perfume dry down is sensual and warm woodsy-musky and creamy vanillic emitted from the notes of Burmese thanaka wood, gentle Thai rice, and Reunion vanilla. The unusual blend of rice and thanaka wood bring in a sweet milky scent, a great way to boost the warm and seductive sweetness of vanilla. All in all, Kenzo Amour is a very comforting and sensual fragrance. It is also sweet, but not heavy and cloying. No, it evokes feelings of calmness, warmth, peacefulness, feminine gentleness... It is truly one of the most beautiful women's perfumes around, even though some might find the fragrance too strong or reminiscent of the baby powder.
The overall character of this perfume emanates a feeling of comfort, relaxation, femine softness and sensuality... It gives the feeling of love, affection and peacefulness... The gentleness of the top notes is outweighed by the succeeding clean, refreshing floral middle notes. It makes you feel more active and invigorated. On the other hand, the sweet musky base notes hint at feminine seductiveness, not in an audacious, but in a gentle way.
Lady & Feelings
Made to accentuate women's gentle nature and tender femininity, Kenzo Amour perfume (EDP) goes well with almost every woman. As already mentioned above, it will make you feel calm, relaxed, gentle, loved and cared for - truly! The perfume radiates with positive emotions, affection and love - a Christmasy spirit if you want.
Subtleness of Kenzo Amour makes it great for everyday wear. While it may have a general scent of softness, it also contains hints of seductive aroma. This allows the perfume to go well with evening elegant gowns as well. Wear it with your elegant one shoulder evening gown plus your favorite jewelry pieces; you will undeniably be a crowd stand out. While many prefer to use Kenzo Amour perfume for evening wear, you can absolutely wear it with your casual dress, since it has an underlying floral fragrance. You can also wear it for work or school because it is usually not perceived as very heavy.
Aside from its wide wearability and appeal it also a very long-lasting fragrance. You can use just little and it lasts the whole day, which is very appropriate for young women and professionals. I personally think this perfume goes well with any season, but maybe due to its warm, sensual character it is maybe more suitable for colder days, fall and winter. Whichever way you use this perfume, you will absolutely feel the unique emotions packed with it.
As a Gift?
The rich and harmonic blend of predominantly Asian notes makes Kenzo Amour a great gift idea for almost every woman; every age group, relation to you and practically any occasion. Aside from its unique, wide appeal, it also has a great packaging design and bottle. My best friend gave me Kenzo Amour for my thirtieth birthday and I fell in love with it immediately; it has become one of my favourite fragrances. This beautiful perfume can be gifted also for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, but in my opinion the best holiday to gift it is - Christmas.
Kenzo Amour comes in three regular volumes (each volume has a differently coloured bottle; see above) and the price varies depending where you purchase it. You can check prices online at cosmetic shops or at Kenzo's official website. At the time of writing this review, the prices varied between: $80-95 for 3.4 fl. oz. bottle, $65-75 for 1.7 fl. oz. bottle, and $45-55 for 1. fl. oz bottle. If you are purchasing online, you must check first the extra charges for delivery. Although there are some shops selling at lower prices, you might want to consider their reputation and the genuineness of the product you are buying.
